The Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation works closely with schools to develop and present our Teen Writers Workshops. High school students from area schools and home-schooled are welcome and encouraged to earn volunteer hours by helping with home preservation, training for and working as docents at the historic home, and assisting with our events.
Teen Writers with an interest in poetry are invited to read at our annual Poetry & BBQ event. Students are always welcome to read their poetry at Poetry Open Mic.
Juniors and Seniors in the IB program at Sebastian River High School and Lincoln Park Academy can receive CAS creative hours for workshop participation and for related writing projects submitted to the Teen Writers Workshop.
In the past, students from Indian River Charter High School and Vero Beach High School have fulfilled college preparation requirements by taking the Teen Writers College Essay Writing Workshop. Students should check with their school for current volunteer and credit requirements.
We Welcome Participation
Teachers and parents who want to get involved in bringing literary opportunities, projects or workshops to the Vero Beach area should contact us.
“When human beings, hurrying along, leave their guardian angel, language, trailing behind, they lose virtue and grace that had been theirs, and the vision of what more there is to possess and be, happily.”
